December decisions

After a fabulous potluck dinner at Kathy's, Silver Lake Book Club members made some decisions about communications, chose a book for January, and shared their recommendations for the 2012 reading list.

Decisions include:

1) The hostess for the next Book Club meeting will be responsible for sending reminder e-mails to the member list, starting at least two weeks before the meeting.  I sent everyone a copy of the current e-mail list today so you can make sure your list is up to date.

2) Everyone should be sure to RSVP so the hostess can plan chairs, food, etc.

3)   Even though attendance is lower in the Summer months, we'll still plan to meet, but Summer meetings will be no longer be scheduled at Brittany because of the heat.

4) Instead of continuing the Poetry Night tradition this January, the group decided to read an inspirational book.  The book for January 2012 is The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch (link on the right).

On the sidebar to the right is a list of 24 books recommended by members at the meeting.  You can click on any book to read a synopsis and reviews -- but be careful, some Amazon user reviews include spoilers.

Please let me know if I missed any books that were mentioned; conversation was fast and furious, so I may not have heard every book discussed.

If you weren't able to attend the dinner and would like to add books to the list, please write a comment here on the blog or send an email to the email list, and I will add the book links.

To finalize the choices for next year, please choose the six books you most want to see on our 2012 reading list.  Be sure and bring your calendar to the January meeting, where we will set up the book list and schedule meeting places.

If anyone has additional book recommendations, please add them in the Comments.

Merry Christmas and happy reading!

  1. Bonnie, This blog is a fantastic idea! I will not be able to be there next week--I am helping babysit my grandson in D.C. I vote for State of Wonder, In the Garden of the Beasts, Queen Victoria, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, The Good Daughters, and Angle of Repose. Kristen
